Installation of 24 Air Purifiers Around Elementary Schools to Be Completed by the End of November
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) plans to install 24 speed enforcement CCTV cameras in school zones around 23 elementary schools in the district by the end of November.
Since the Road Traffic Act (Min-sik Act), which limits vehicle speed to 30 km/h within school zones, came into effect on March 25, the district has been working with the Songpa Police Station to install enforcement cameras to create a safer route for children going to and from school.
The district has secured a budget of 900 million KRW for installing speed enforcement CCTV and plans to install and operate cameras at 24 locations around 23 elementary schools in the area by the end of November.
Since January this year, Songpa-gu and the Songpa Police Station have held briefing sessions on selecting locations for traffic enforcement equipment, prioritizing areas with high traffic accident risk indices to install speed enforcement cameras in locations with a high likelihood of accidents.
Additionally, they are reviewing plans to expand the installation of speed enforcement cameras in elementary schools without cameras and at existing locations where additional cameras are needed, in consultation with the Songpa Police Station.
Earlier, to create a Songpa-gu free of child traffic accidents, the district has been implementing projects this year including the designation of new and expanded child protection zones (2 locations), yellow carpets (9 locations), yellow footprints (36 locations), and time-restricted traffic during school hours (1 location), with installation work scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “By installing speed enforcement equipment around elementary schools, we will more effectively encourage vehicles to slow down, greatly contributing to child traffic safety. We will also ensure that child protection zone improvement projects proceed smoothly to create a traffic environment where both children and parents can travel with peace of mind.”
