[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Lotte Homeshopping announced on the 25th that it held an awards ceremony for the ‘2nd Emotional Laborer Consideration Culture Establishment UCC Contest,’ co-hosted with the Sunfull Foundation Sunfull Movement Headquarters.
The event, held on the 24th at Hanyang University International Hall in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, was attended by Jung Yoon-sang, Head of Communications at Lotte Homeshopping, Min Byung-chul, Chairman of the Sunfull Foundation, Lee Sang-jong, President of the National Sunfull Teachers Association, and other officials. Awards and prize money were presented to a total of 32 winning teams.
From December last year for about five months, a total of 236 entries were received. The final winners were selected through expert judging based on originality, empathy, expressiveness, completeness, and popularity (number of likes). In the university & general category, ‘One More Clear, Then Cloudy’ (Minister of Gender Equality and Family Award, prize money of 5 million won) won the grand prize, and in the youth category, ‘bad Guy! Consideration Please’ (Minister of Gender Equality and Family Award, prize money of 3 million won) took the grand prize.
‘One More Clear, Then Cloudy’ was highly evaluated for empathetically expressing the hardships and sorrows of nurses, call center counselors, and salespeople in the form of a music video, while ‘bad Guy! Consideration Please’ won the grand prize by cheerfully conveying a message to understand the difficulties of emotional laborers and to consider their positions with a youthful sensibility.
Lotte Homeshopping employs many emotional laborers such as customer center counselors due to the nature of its telemarketing business. Recognizing that their psychological health and stability must be secured to provide good counseling and service to customers, the company planned the ‘UCC Video Contest’ last year for the first time in the industry in collaboration with the Sunfull Movement Headquarters.
Under the slogan ‘Support Emotional Laborers and Eradicate Hate Speech,’ it leads efforts to raise awareness of the realities faced by emotional laborers suffering from discrimination, severe malicious comments, and hate speech, and encourages better treatment and improvement of public awareness toward them.
Jung Yoon-sang, Head of Communications at Lotte Homeshopping, said, “All emotional laborers, including customer center counselors, have the right to be properly respected. It is regrettable that the hardships of 8 million emotional laborers have become more severe due to COVID-19. Lotte Homeshopping will actively raise awareness of their psychological pain and continue various campaigns that promote respect and consideration, leading efforts to improve public perception of emotional laborers.”
