Shinsegae Group's 17 Companies Unite for 10 Trillion Won Volume at 'Korea SSG Day'


[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] The curtain rises on ‘Korea SSG Day,’ featuring a total of 17 affiliated companies from Shinsegae Group.


This year again, SSG.com takes the lead in the SSG Day event. Starting at midnight on the 26th, the online pre-event will begin sequentially, and from 8 a.m., all events will be open to the public.


At this event, SSG.com will offer up to 80% discounts on 400,000 products from a total of 6,200 brands. The prepared inventory amounts to 1 trillion KRW. This is a little more than double the scale compared to last year’s first SSG Day, which featured 200,000 products from 3,000 brands.


SSG.com Unveils Starbucks Albee Bag

The most notable aspect of this year’s SSG Day event is the organic collaboration among Shinsegae Group affiliates. In particular, each company focused on combining their core strengths to present products and benefits that cannot be found anywhere else.


SSG.com is teaming up with Starbucks to produce limited-edition gifts to attract customers. The ‘Starbucks Albee Bag’ produced by SSG.com this time is limited to 100,000 units, and customers can choose between the ‘Bearista’ type and the ‘Green Siren’ type. These gifts will be shipped sequentially starting November 9.


During the SSG Day event period, customers who purchase a total of 200,000 KRW or more, including orders of 40,000 KRW or more with ‘SSG Delivery’ or ‘Dawn Delivery,’ can apply through the application page on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 8 a.m. on the first day of the pre-event, the 26th. However, if paying with SSG Pay, the purchase requirement is 170,000 KRW or more.


SSG.com has also prepared coupon discounts worth 6 billion KRW from Shinsegae Group affiliates. For example, a 50,000 KRW mobile voucher for E-Mart can be purchased at a 6% discount for 47,000 KRW, and purchasing a 50,000 KRW Starbucks e-card voucher also grants a free beverage coupon.


Benefits Linked with SSG Pay... ‘Jupjup Coupon’ at 9 a.m. Every Morning

Last year there was the ‘National Allowance,’ and this year there is the ‘Jupjup Coupon.’ Starting at 9 a.m. every morning, SSG.com issues a Jupjup Coupon to the first 100,000 customers, which gives a 10,000 KRW discount on purchases over 100,000 KRW.


Additionally, benefits worth about 2 billion KRW linked with the simple payment service SSG Pay are also noteworthy. During the event period, participating once daily in the ‘Invitation Event’ on the SSG Pay app will randomly award prizes such as SSG Money and Aqua Field annual passes to the first 300,000 participants.


Moreover, on the main event day, the 31st, a ‘100% Winning Payback Event’ will be held, where the first 110,000 customers who pay a total of 50,000 KRW or more using SSG Pay across 15 group companies will receive up to 30,000 KRW back in SSG Money.


Time- and brand-specific promotions are also more abundant than ever. During the event period, SSG.com will hold six daily ‘Time Deals’ worth 10 billion KRW, offering popular products at special prices. Representative products include the ‘Apple AirPods Pro,’ ‘Apple Watch Series 3,’ and ‘Samsung Galaxy Note Ultra 20’ at special prices.


A ‘Brand Gala Show’ featuring 120 best brands with an inventory of 53 billion KRW will also be held. Major brands such as ‘Samsung,’ ‘LG,’ and ‘Apple’ will participate. Pre-orders for new products including the upcoming ‘Apple iPhone 12,’ ‘iPad Air 4th generation,’ and ‘iPad 8th generation’ will be available.


SSG.com will conduct its first live commerce event, ‘SSG.LIVE.’ ‘SSG.LIVE’ will be held twice daily by category for a total of 12 sessions during the event period. Notably, on the 29th at 8 p.m., a collaboration with ‘Yves Saint Laurent Beauty’ will feature makeup artist Isabae introducing makeup tips.


Maximizing SSG.com’s Online Grocery Shopping Competitiveness... Largest Inventory of Luxury, Fashion, and Beauty

SSG.com emphasized the strengths of ‘online grocery shopping’ in this event as well. The strategy is to make it a ‘must-shop SSG Day’ by offering maximum discounts on fresh foods and daily necessities prepared through advance contracts.


For example, during the event period, the ‘Korea Hanwoo Beef Festival’ and ‘Year-round Lowest Price on Pork Belly’ events will be held. Premium Hanwoo sirloin 1++ grade 150g will be offered at a 60% discount for 9,900 KRW in limited quantities, and 12 types of seasonal fresh foods including high-sugar Shine Muscat grapes will be delivered directly from farms at up to 50% discounted prices. Additionally, the ‘Seola’ peach variety, which can be eaten in winter, will be sold exclusively on SSG.com. Also, 30,000 ultra-low-priced single-person meal kit sets will be sold considering the rapid increase in single-person households.


Various trendy products have also been prepared. This year, the focus was on securing the largest inventory of products that are usually difficult to purchase by negotiating with famous brands in the luxury, fashion, and beauty categories.


The most eye-catching is the exclusive Gucci special event. This event will specially sell three best-selling items including the ‘Gucci Horsebit 1955’ top-handle handbag and wallet. Another luxury brand, Burberry, will also offer a 5% down coupon and additional discounts during the SSG Day period.


SSG.com has prepared popular products such as clutches and crossbody bags from Prada and Saint Laurent, which were arranged through prior negotiations with importers six months ago, with discounts of up to 35%. Duty-free luxury products are also prepared at an unprecedented scale. Over 3,000 accessories including bags, wallets, belts, and shoes from 76 popular brands such as Tod’s, Chlo?, Loewe, and Bally will be sold at discounts of up to 60%.


In addition, more than 10 billion KRW worth of inventory will be prepared in categories such as outdoor, sports, baby & kids, and beauty, kicking off a mega sale. SSG.com’s travel service specialty section ‘Trip’ will offer discounts on airline tickets and hotels. Among Jin Air domestic flight customers, free round-trip tickets will be given by lottery.


Finally, a special COVID-19 related exhibition selling masks, propolis, and red ginseng at special prices has also been prepared. Cleanroom KF94 masks will be sold starting at 500 KRW per piece. Additionally, a special exhibition featuring regional specialty brands and small business products struggling due to COVID-19 will be held. Participants include Jinseong BNC, Aram Trading, Jeju Food Massim, and Tamna Pork.
