[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] Kim Du-gwan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, saying, "He clearly has no regard for anything." At the same time, he strongly emphasized the necessity of launching the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (Hugo, Gongsoocheo).

On the 24th, Kim posted on his Facebook, "The Prosecutor General did not hesitate to say that he is not a subordinate of the Minister of Justice. Since conservative media and opposition parties are supporting a leading presidential candidate, it is clear that neither the president, the minister, nor the people matter to him," he said.

Kim said, "It has long been that the Prosecutor General has abandoned neutrality and has ultimately reduced the prosecution to a personal tool for his political ambitions," adding, "In our society, where factional conflicts have reached their peak, focusing attacks on only one side is already a highly political act."

He continued, criticizing Yoon, "He deliberately turned a blind eye to corruption among opposition figures while repeatedly issuing search warrants over a single commendation certificate related to the child of a ruling party member. He has refused the people's stern command for prosecutorial reform and sided with the conservative opposition and conservative media."

Furthermore, he added, "(Yoon) even went so far as to attack the president elected by the people as 'a dictatorship and totalitarianism disguised as democracy,' and now he is questioning the Minister of Justice, who clearly holds investigative authority, with remarks like 'Am I your subordinate?'"

Emphasizing the justification for the Hugo, he argued, "Now, there is no alternative but the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office. While the prosecution rate for general cases is 40%, the prosecution rate for crimes committed by prosecutors is only 0.1%. We must root out all political and corrupt prosecutors who disturb the country and undermine fairness."
