Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, Gwangju, Receives Plaque of Appreciation from Korea Amateur Boxing Association

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, received a plaque of appreciation from the Korea Corporate Boxing Association (President Kim Young-gi) on the 23rd.

The Korea Corporate Boxing Association recognized Mayor Im Taek's dedication to the safety of district residents on the front lines during the difficult times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as his special interest and unwavering support for promoting local sports activities, including the reestablishment of the Dong-gu boxing team, and presented him with a plaque of appreciation.

Since taking office in July 2018, Mayor Im has pushed for the reestablishment of the Dong-gu boxing team in January this year to create a foothold where outstanding boxing talents from our region can fully demonstrate their abilities without moving to other areas.

Previously, the Dong-gu boxing team was founded in 1990 but was disbanded in 1996 due to difficult financial conditions.

Although the Dong-gu boxing team has had few opportunities to participate as nationwide competitions have been consecutively canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they are currently training intensely in preparation for next month's national team selection competition.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “I am grateful to the Korea Corporate Boxing Association for awarding me this plaque of appreciation,” and added, “I expect the Dong-gu boxing team to repay the residents with good results as they have worked hard and sweated through the difficult times caused by COVID-19.”
