Chonnam National University announced on the 23rd that it was selected as an excellent university in the regional cooperation category at the ‘2020 Korea University Newspaper University Awards’ ceremony held the day before and received a commendation.
Chonnam National University was selected as the leading university of the ‘Regional Innovation Platform Project,’ which involves 15 universities in the region, Gwangju City, and Jeollanam-do Province, leading not only educational innovation and regional innovation but also the revitalization of regionally specialized industries such as the new energy industry and future transportation equipment industry.
Previously, Chonnam National University was also selected for the ‘University Town-type Urban Regeneration Project,’ taking the lead in revitalizing the commercial district around Jungheung-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju City.
In addition, it has focused on transforming the area into a foundation for university students’ employment and entrepreneurship, and has actively promoted regional cooperation by directly engaging in solving local social issues through projects such as the Living Lab.
President Jeong Byeongseok said, “Although Chonnam National University is a national university, it was established with contributions from the residents of Jeollanam-do and the Confucian community, so it has an inseparable relationship with the local community. Chonnam National University will actively engage in regional win-win cooperation in the future in response to the era’s demand that the university share its resources with the local community and lead regional innovation.”
Meanwhile, the Korea University Newspaper (Publisher Choi Yongseop), founded in 1988 with the goals of pursuing university orthodoxy, creating university culture, and leading university public opinion, is recognized for taking the lead in proposing policy alternatives to secure university competitiveness.
