[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Han-hyuk Lee] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 23rd that it is promoting the "Rural Village Sewerage Improvement Project" to improve the residential conditions and protect water quality for residents of Gwang-i Village in Nampyeong-eup and Pyeongsan Village in Dado-myeon.
This project involves an investment of 5.8 billion KRW (70% national funding) to install sewer pipelines of 3.64 km and 2.85 km (total 6.49 km) in Gwang-i Village and Pyeongsan Village respectively by 2023.
In particular, the existing combined sewer system, where sewage and stormwater are processed through a single pipe, will be replaced by a separated sewer system with a newly constructed separate sewage pipeline for treatment.
Previously, the city began the basic design in 2018, held two rounds of resident briefings, and after administrative procedures such as design field reviews and construction of a temporary site office, officially started construction on August 25th.
Once the sewer improvement work is completed, it is expected to improve residential odor problems caused by the closure of individual septic tanks for all 118 households in the two villages, as well as reduce economic burdens by eliminating the need to pay for septic tank waste collection.
Mayor Kang In-gyu said, "This sewerage improvement project in the Nampyeong and Dado areas will contribute not only to improving residents' living convenience but also to preserving water quality in the Yeongsan River basin, the discharge area, and securing high-quality water resources through advanced treatment at public sewage treatment facilities."
