[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The first cyber security conference in the Honam region was successfully held on the 23rd at the Dongshin University Energy Cluster.
According to Dongshin University, the "1st Honam Region Cyber Security Conference" was organized by Dongshin University and Chonnam National University, and hosted by the Honam Branch of the Korea Institute of Information Security & Cryptology and the Gwangju Branch of the National Intelligence Service.
Local governments, national agencies, public institutions, universities, and information security companies from Gwangju and the Jeonnam and Jeonbuk areas participated. The event featured an autumn academic conference, an Energy ICT hacking competition, a cyber security expert workshop, and a maker startup competition.
Professor Yoon Myung-geun of Kookmin University delivered the keynote speech on the theme "Cyber Security in the Era of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data," and spent time with attendees to gauge the future of cyber security.
In the subsequent Energy ICT hacking competition, after online preliminaries, 10 participants from the general division and 10 from the university division competed in the finals. Four winners in each division received awards such as the Jeonnam Governor's Award, Korea Electric Power Corporation President's Award, KEPCO KDN President's Award, and Korea Internet & Security Agency Director's Award.
A total of 53 papers were submitted nationwide for the autumn academic conference, and the best and excellent papers in each category were selected and awarded.
Lee Dong-hwi, head of the Honam Branch of the Korea Institute of Information Security & Cryptology (professor of Convergence Information Security at Dongshin University), said, "This conference is a great opportunity to strengthen cyber security capabilities in the Honam region and to discover and nurture outstanding talent," adding, "We will continuously develop the Honam Cyber Security Conference."
Meanwhile, the event was conducted in strict compliance with COVID-19 prevention principles, including mask-wearing and temperature checks upon entry.
Choi Il, president of Dongshin University, and the deputy director of the National Cyber Safety Center gave welcome speeches; Jung Su-hwan, president of the Korea Institute of Information Security & Cryptology, delivered the opening address; and Kang In-gyu, mayor of Naju City, gave a congratulatory speech. Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok and Korea Electric Power Corporation President Kim Jong-gap sent congratulatory videos. Attendees included Kim Seok-hwan, director of the Korea Internet & Security Agency; Kim Young-deok, chairman of the Naju City Council; Kim Kwang-hwi, director of Planning and Coordination in Gwangju Metropolitan City; and Myung Chang-hwan, director of Planning and Coordination in Jeonnam Province.
