[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Genesis has launched the first facelift model of the G70, introduced in 2017, called ‘The New G70.’ The new G70 is the last sedan in the Genesis lineup to adopt the brand’s family look, following the G90 and G80.

The exterior has been completely transformed with the application of the signature two-line quad lamps, which have become a symbol of Genesis design. The front features a low-positioned Crest grille combined with the quad lamps, completing the brand’s design identity.

Overall, the design emphasizes both brand identity and dynamism. The side profile inherits the proportions of the previous model, characterized by a long hood and short front overhang, but incorporates side vents optimized for aerodynamic efficiency and new G70-exclusive wheels, visually expressing agile performance. Like the front, the rear also features quad lamps, and a diffuser painted in the same color as the body completes the image of a high-performance sedan.

The exterior color options have expanded from 9 to 14. Newly introduced Bond Silver, along with three matte colors including Verbier White and Melbourne Gray, and two glossy colors such as Sedona Brown and Tasman Blue, have been added.

The interior features a larger 10.25-inch infotainment system screen. The basic instrument cluster screen size has also been increased significantly from 3.5 inches to 8 inches. The wireless charging system not only has increased charging capacity but has also changed from a vertical to a horizontal layout, allowing it to charge devices of various sizes more conveniently than before.

The powertrain lineup remains the same, offering three options: a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo, a 2.2-liter diesel, and a 3.3-liter gasoline turbo. However, all models now include a new driving mode called ‘Sport+,’ which optimizes engine and transmission control for dynamic driving without separate transmission operation. The Sport+ mode delays the upshift timing to higher gears during acceleration and synchronizes the transmission and engine RPM momentarily during deceleration to advance the downshift timing to lower gears.

The prices are set at 40.35 million KRW for the 2.0 turbo, 43.59 million KRW for the 2.2 diesel, and 45.85 million KRW for the 3.3 turbo. Compared to the previous model, the starting price has increased by about 2 million KRW.

Industry attention is focused on whether the launch of the new G70 will give a further boost to Genesis brand sales. By the end of this year, with the addition of Genesis’s second sport utility vehicle (SUV), the GV70, Genesis will complete its lineup with three sedans?G70, G80, and G90?and two SUVs?GV70 and GV80.

From the beginning of this year through September, domestic Genesis sales reached 77,358 units. Even with the fourth quarter remaining, this already exceeds last year’s annual sales by more than 20,000 units. Sales have been mainly driven by the G80 (39,133 units) and GV80 (24,744 units). The G70’s sales are the lowest among the Genesis lineup, totaling only 6,103 units, making it crucial for the new model to achieve a turnaround.
