[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Sang-ik, former Hampyeong County Governor in Jeollanam-do, visited local farming sites to check on the rice harvest situation and encourage farmers.
According to Hampyeong County on the 23rd, the previous day, Governor Lee visited the rice harvesting sites in Singwang-myeon and Sonbul-myeon to listen to farmers' difficulties and inspect agricultural policy issues.
At the site, Governor Lee personally demonstrated driving a combine harvester, experiencing the farmers' hardships firsthand and carefully managing the agricultural machinery rental business.
Governor Lee said, "This year has been more difficult than ever due to the infectious disease emergency situation combined with heavy rains and typhoons, but seeing the fruits of the farmers' sweat and effort is truly moving. Going forward, the county will continue to promote various policy projects for producing high-quality rice and do its best to find alternatives to stabilize farm household incomes."
This year, the rice cultivation area in Hampyeong County is 7,422 hectares.
Due to frequent rainfall and consecutive typhoons, the harvest volume is expected to decrease by about 20-30% compared to previous years.
The county has additionally invested a total project cost of 1.613 billion KRW to support local rice farmers by providing general rice shipment incentives, seedbed soil for rice seedlings, large packaging materials for ton-bag purchases, and reducing farmers' share of crop disaster insurance premiums from the existing 20% to 10%.
