[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] On the 23rd, Kim Hee-guk, a member of the People Power Party, raised allegations of preferential treatment during the comprehensive audit of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport by the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, stating, "A former aide to Minister Kim Hyun-mi was appointed as the vice president of the Korea Construction Technicians Association, which is mainly for those from the construction sector."
On the same day, Rep. Kim questioned Minister Kim, "The person currently serving as the vice president of the Construction Technicians Association is a former aide to Minister Kim. Why was this person sent to the association as vice president?" In response, Minister Kim explained, "I did not send them."
Rep. Kim stated, "This position has an annual salary of 190 million won with unlimited discretionary expenses, which totals over 300 million won annually when all is considered," and added, "Construction technicians are reportedly puzzled and feel ashamed that a current minister's aide was hired."
Minister Kim responded, "I found out about the hiring later."
Rep. Kim explained, "This position is usually held by vice presidents of large corporations or technical directors from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport."
Minister Kim replied, "I will contact that person to ensure appropriate measures are taken."
