Goheung-gun Promotes Change of Private Investment Development Project 'Ujuhaeyang Resort Special Zone'

Extended until 2023, Zip Track and Monorail Projects Added

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 23rd, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will promote changes to the development plan due to the extension of the project period and additional projects for the Yeongnam-myeon Namyeol-ri Space Marine Resort Special Zone development project.

The Goheung Space Marine Resort Special Zone, which will be established on a scale of 1,158,000㎡ in the Namyeol-ri area of Yeongnam-myeon, is a large-scale leisure and cultural facility private investment development project that includes 920 lodging rooms, a space marine observatory, and a public golf course covering 561,000㎡.

The proposed change to the development plan intends to extend the project implementation period by three years from the original deadline of 2020 to 2023. Additionally, with the inclusion of zip track and monorail projects, the project cost is expected to increase from the original 366.1 billion KRW to 407.5 billion KRW, an increase of 41.4 billion KRW.

To extend the special zone development plan, the county has been gradually proceeding with procedures for the changes, including a 20-day public inspection and collection of residents' opinions in August. A public hearing to listen to residents' opinions is scheduled to be held on the 28th at the Yeongnam-myeon Office meeting room.

Furthermore, after completing all preparations for the special zone changes, including hearing opinions from the Goheung County Council, final approval from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups is expected by the end of 2020, allowing the continuation of the special zone development project.

After the announcement of the special zone change approval, once the relocation project of obstacles (cemeteries) within the special zone is completed, the county will continue to acquire private land, aiming to start construction as early as the end of 2021.

A county official stated, “We expect that the extension of the special zone through changes to the Space Marine Resort Special Zone development plan will play a leading role in the development of Goheung-gun’s tourism industry,” and added, “We hope that establishing the previously insufficient tourism infrastructure will help create jobs and revitalize the local economy.”
