Trump Twitter Account Hacked in Just Five Attempts Without Hacking Program

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] A Dutch man has become a hot topic for cracking the password of U.S. President Donald Trump's Twitter account on his fifth attempt using simple guesses without any hacking program.

On the 22nd (local time), the British daily The Guardian reported, citing the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant, that a Dutch man with 87 million followers revealed that President Trump's Twitter account password was "maga2020!". MAGA is an acronym for Trump's campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."

Security expert Viktor Gevers stated in an interview with De Volkskrant that he accidentally accessed President Trump's account recently.

Without any dedicated hacking program, he entered passwords by simple guessing, and on the fifth try, when he input "maga2020!", the password was unlocked.

He said, "After the fourth failure, I expected the access to be completely blocked or to be asked for additional information," adding, "It seemed that President Trump was not even using basic security measures like two-factor authentication (a procedure requiring an additional password)."

Gevers added that he informed Trump's election campaign, family, the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the White House, and Twitter headquarters about the vulnerability of this account to hacking, but received no response.

However, the next day, two-factor authentication was introduced to the account, and two days later, he received a message from the Secret Service (SS), responsible for presidential protection, thanking him for notifying them about the security issue, Gevers said.

Twitter completely denied this, explaining, "We have actively implemented security measures by specially designating several accounts related to elections in the U.S., including federal government agencies."

This is not the first time Gevers has accessed President Trump's Twitter account.

He also succeeded in hacking the account by simple guessing in 2016, and at that time, the password was "yourefired," The Guardian reported. This phrase was popularized by President Trump on the TV show "The Apprentice" before entering politics.
