[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Regional Maritime Police Agency and the Southern Sea Fisheries Management Unit conducted joint patrols from the 15th to the 22nd to respond to the frequent illegal fishing activities by Chinese vessels in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
This joint patrol was initiated to establish early operational order among foreign fishing vessels following the resumption of trawl fishing by Chinese vessels on the 16th.
The joint patrol deployed three patrol boats, one fisheries guidance vessel, and one helicopter, driving away 80 Chinese vessels violating the Korea-China Fisheries Agreement line and blocking 45 vessels. The Jeju Maritime Police and the Southern Sea Fisheries Management Unit plan to continue patrolling areas with dense Chinese fishing activities and around the Korea-China Fisheries Agreement line.
Meanwhile, the two agencies have established a close relationship by holding cooperation meetings and sharing information on Chinese fishing activities to maintain order among foreign fishing vessels in the Jeju waters.
