"Taking Care of Health and Helping Neighbors" Hyundai Engineering Starts Second 'Step Donation' of the Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Hyundai Engineering announced on the 23rd that it will collaborate with the social enterprise Big Walk to conduct the second non-face-to-face step donation social contribution activity of the year.

In the first non-face-to-face step donation social contribution activity held in June, 1,560 Hyundai Engineering employees participated, recording a total of about 225 million steps over about a month (an average of about 144,000 steps per person). The company explained, "The initial donation target was 30 million steps, but we exceeded it by 750%, proving the high interest of Hyundai Engineering employees in non-face-to-face social contribution activities." Through this, Hyundai Engineering donated 2,600 servings of summer health food worth 30 million KRW and 88,500 bottles of water to five shantytowns in the Seoul area.

This second campaign expands the scale of the first campaign, which only involved Hyundai Engineering employees, into a public campaign that allows general public participation. Donations can be easily made by installing the mobile application 'Big Walk' on a smartphone. The participation period is until November 15.

Reflecting the enthusiasm of the first campaign, Hyundai Engineering set the target number of steps at 300 million and plans to donate winter supplies worth 30 million KRW to the Seoul shantytowns through step donations.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has prolonged this year, Hyundai Engineering is actively promoting non-face-to-face social contribution activities using mobile social contribution platforms. Hyundai Engineering divides 'non-face-to-face social contribution' into three areas: online, telecommuting, and unmanned, and conducts various social contribution programs that employees and their families can easily participate in.

Through unmanned item collection, Hyundai Engineering donated 11,000 items (worth about 32 million KRW) twice this year to 'Goodwill Store Milal Ilsan Branch,' a social enterprise that creates employment for the disabled. Experts from various fields at Hyundai Engineering have also conducted an online job mentoring program for youth through non-face-to-face 'Pro Bono' activities. They also carried out the 'Hope Tee Campaign,' in which employees' children could participate, donating hand-painted T-shirts and nutritional therapy meals to children who are climate refugees.

A Hyundai Engineering social contribution official said, "In a situation where face-to-face contact is difficult due to COVID-19, we planned the non-face-to-face step donation campaign again to capture the enthusiasm of employees for social contribution activities," adding, "We will continue to develop more diverse social contribution programs and do our best to become a company that actively fulfills its social responsibilities."
