[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 23rd that it will provide 50.9 billion KRW in special grants to six cities and provinces to restore facilities damaged by Typhoons Maysak and Haishen last summer.
By region, Gangwon Province will receive 22.3 billion KRW, Gyeongbuk 19.8 billion KRW, Gyeongnam 4.7 billion KRW, Ulsan 2.1 billion KRW, Jeju 1.2 billion KRW, and Busan 800 million KRW.
This special grant support aims to reduce the local government’s financial burden for restoration projects in typhoon-affected areas. Considering the scale of damage and financial capacity of each local government, 42.3 billion KRW will be invested in restoration project costs. Additionally, 8.6 billion KRW will be provided to special disaster zones to support local pending projects such as public facility installations that may be halted or delayed due to the local government’s financial burden for restoring damaged facilities.
Jin Young, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "I hope this special grant support will help the rapid restoration of typhoon-damaged facilities and contribute to the quick stabilization of residents’ lives in the affected areas." He added, "I urge each local government to ensure thorough implementation of restoration projects to prevent repeated damage from wind and flood disasters."
