[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong returned to Korea on the 23rd after a 4-night, 5-day trip to Vietnam. After inspecting local business operations in Vietnam, Vice Chairman Lee plans to travel to Japan again within the year.

On the morning of the same day, Vice Chairman Lee returned to the Seoul Gimpo Airport Business Aviation Center (SGBAC) via a Korean Air charter flight at around 7:15 a.m. After a brief temperature check, he left the airport saying, "I need to go to Japan once within the year to meet customers," adding, "Nothing has been decided yet."

When asked whether there are any local semiconductor investment plans as requested by the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Vice Chairman Lee did not respond.

Earlier, Vice Chairman Lee held a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Vietnam. This was the third time Lee had a private meeting with Prime Minister Phuc, following meetings in 2018 and November of last year.

Additionally, Vice Chairman Lee visited the construction site of Samsung Electronics' new R&D center being built in Hanoi, as well as the nearby Samsung complex sites located in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen, to conduct on-site inspections. At the site, he stated, "In the post-COVID-19 era, we must develop the capability to respond swiftly to any major changes that may arise," and emphasized, "We must find opportunities within crises."

Vice Chairman Lee is scheduled to take a COVID-19 test at a temporary clinic set up near Gimpo Airport after boarding a prepared vehicle. He plans to wait at the temporary clinic until the test results are available before moving to his residence.

Meanwhile, Han Jong-hee, President of the Visual Display Business Division, who returned with Vice Chairman Lee, announced that Samsung Electronics plans to launch its next-generation TV display, the Mini LED TV, in the first half of next year.
