Baemin to Hold Photo Exhibition Featuring Euljiro Alley Scenes

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Baedal Minjok is collaborating with Sejong Center for the Performing Arts and renowned photographer MJ KIM (real name Kim Myung-jung) to present a special photo exhibition capturing the lives of artisans in the Euljiro industrial workshop district.

Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok (Baemin) and led by CEO Kim Beom-jun, announced that from the 24th of this month to the 2nd of next month, they will hold the photo exhibition "Hey Mr. Foundryman, Why Mr. Moldmaker?" at Gallery 1 of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul for ten days.

This exhibition was prepared with the intention of highlighting the relationship between the city, people, and letters, which was the conceptual aim of 'Euljiro 10 Years Later Typeface' announced by Baemin on Hangeul Day, October 9th. The photos were taken by MJ KIM, famous as the exclusive photographer for Paul McCartney of The Beatles, who spent about a year capturing the alleys of Euljiro workshops and the thirty-three artisans he met there.

All the photos displayed in this exhibition were created using analog film cameras. The artist observed the metal workshop artisans who carve metal by hand daily and gather clay to make molds, approaching the photography process itself in an analog manner. Han Myung-soo, Head of Creative Division at Woowa Brothers, said, "Since last year, while developing the Euljiro Typeface and Euljiro 10 Years Later Typeface, we have focused on the space of Euljiro, which has persistently maintained life through cycles of growth, decline, and revival. We hope that Woowa Brothers' typeface, newly born eight years ago inspired by signboards around us, will not only function as a typeface but also spark interest and discussion about our city and its people."

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the exhibition limits the number of visitors. Admission is only possible with a prior reservation through the website. On-site reservations are also available, but waiting times for entry may occur. Admission is free.
