[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The People Power Party will hold a public hearing to find a 'Busan mayoral citizen candidate' in Busan on the 30th.
The party's April 7 by-election primary preparation committee announced on the 22nd that it had finalized this plan.
Under the slogan "We will listen carefully, we will find carefully," the public hearing will be held at 2 p.m. at the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The committee explained, "This is an occasion to hear the image of the mayor that Busan citizens hope for and to find policy measures for the citizens of Busan."
The committee decided to thoroughly verify ▲inappropriate past remarks and behavior ▲Me Too allegations ▲commitment to gender equality ▲disqualifications as an elected public official candidate, since this Seoul and Busan mayoral by-election originated from misconduct by mayors affiliated with the ruling party.
In the meeting, other issues discussed included ▲adjusting the ratio between citizen voting and party member voting ▲methods for evaluating and reflecting the citizen evaluation group ▲plans for holding regional debates and speeches in Seoul and Busan.
The committee added, "When conducting citizen voting and party member voting, we discussed adopting a mobile-based voting method that minimizes the influence of local district lawmakers and out-of-office party branch chiefs, and allows responsible party members to vote from the perspective of ordinary citizens." They also added, "We discussed a plan where candidates present videos they personally produced introducing themselves, explaining their reasons for running, visions, and policy pledges, alongside conducting evaluations through debates."
