[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 22nd, Pohang City completed a six-month full remodeling of the Yeongam Municipal Library and reopened it as a senior welfare specialized library.
Opened in 1987 and now 33 years old, Yeongam Library was transformed through remodeling with a total investment of 1.8 billion KRW from city, provincial, and national funds to improve seismic performance and outdated facilities.
The first floor of the library was expanded and remodeled into a space where parents and children can freely and comfortably read in a spacious environment by enlarging the children's materials room. The specialized corner in the general materials room is stocked with books related to aging, senior welfare, and large-print books for the elderly.
The second floor broke away from the library's previously closed and static space by adding a book caf? and a multipurpose hall (performance hall) where reading and relaxation can be enjoyed together. The library plans to actively purchase audiobooks and expand its non-face-to-face services.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang said, "We will do our best to improve and remodel the aging facilities of libraries in the city so that citizens can read books in a safer and more comfortable environment, and provide high-quality reading culture services to vulnerable groups in the reading culture blind spots."
