[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] The Gyeongbuk Sangju Briquette Bank (Representative Pastor Incheol Kang), which delivers warm heat to underprivileged neighbors during the winter, held the 2020 reopening ceremony and briquette volunteer activity on the 22nd at the Sinbong Church project site in Sinbong-dong.
According to Sangju City, the event gathered institution heads, sponsors, and volunteers, including Mayor Youngseok Kang. This year, the Sangju Briquette Bank plans to deliver 120,000 briquettes of love to 300 households in the Sangju area.
Incheol Kang, representative of the Sangju Briquette Bank, said, "Despite the economic downturn, the increase in briquette prices is making it difficult for ordinary people to get through the winter, so we ask for generous support and active participation for neighbors in need." He added, "For households that find it difficult to use briquettes, we plan to support heating oil as well."
The nonprofit organization Sangju Briquette Bank opened on March 9, 2007, as the 17th branch of the National Briquette Bank Association. Using pure donations rather than government subsidies, it has supported 1.37 million briquettes of love to over 3,400 households to date. In Gyeongbuk Province, similar briquette banks operate not only in Sangju but also in Pohang and Yecheon.
