Lotte Construction Jointly Acquires Construction New Technology for 'Bridge Slab Cantilever Section Construction Method'

Lotte Construction Jointly Acquires Construction New Technology for 'Bridge Slab Cantilever Section Construction Method' The appearance of a detachable bracket installed using the BBCM method on the cantilever section

[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Lotte Construction announced on the 22nd that it has acquired a new construction technology (No. 904) using a new method that installs detachable brackets on the cantilever part of bridge slabs to construct precast concrete (Precast Concrete) panels.

This new technology was jointly developed by Lotte Construction, Shinwon RPC, Hanwha Construction, Heunghwa, and Saman, and its official name is the BBCM (Built-in Bracket Cantilever Method), a method for constructing concrete and steel bridge deck cantilevers using detachable brackets.

To construct the cantilever part, supports capable of holding the PC panels must be installed. Previously, supports were installed using the conventional plywood formwork method. However, the conventional plywood formwork method requires workers to install and dismantle props or formwork at heights, which prolongs the construction period and poses safety risks to workers.

In contrast, the BBCM method allows workers to simply install detachable brackets at the slab edge without installing separate props. This solves the problems of worker safety and schedule delays caused by high-altitude work in the conventional method. After construction, the brackets can be retrieved, which improves aesthetics and allows for bracket reuse, enhancing economic efficiency.

The BBCM method was first used at the Second Gyeongin Expressway site constructed by Lotte Construction in 2016, and has since been actively applied to projects such as the Seoul Oryu-dong Happy Housing artificial ground and the Geumgang pedestrian bridge.

A Lotte Construction official stated, “The BBCM method is significant as the first technology that enables the entire bridge deck slab construction to be done with precast panels, completing the modularization of bridge slabs. We plan to continuously expand the application of this new technology.”
