[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] On the 22nd, the number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) rose to triple digits again at 121 after a week.


According to the domestic status data announced by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Central Disease Control Headquarters as of midnight on the same day, there were 104 new domestic confirmed cases and 17 imported cases.


This is the first time in a week that the number of new confirmed cases has exceeded 100 since recording 110 on the 15th. Additional confirmed cases have occurred in nursing and rehabilitation hospitals where recent cluster infections have occurred, increasing the number of confirmed cases.


By region, 18 cases were reported in Seoul, 62 in Gyeonggi, and 2 in Incheon, totaling 82 cases in the metropolitan area. Outside the metropolitan area, there were 11 cases in Chungnam, 5 in Busan, and 2 each in Daegu, Gangwon, and Jeonbuk.


The number of imported confirmed cases was 17, about half of the 34 cases reported the previous day. They include 4 from the Philippines, 3 from the United States, 3 from France, 2 from Ethiopia, 1 from Russia, 1 from India, 1 from Nepal, 1 from Switzerland, and 1 from the United Kingdom.


Among the confirmed cases, 9 were identified during quarantine inspections at airports or ports of entry, and the remaining 8 tested positive while in self-quarantine at their local residences or temporary living facilities.


The number of critically ill patients is 62, and with 3 deaths reported the previous day, the total number of deaths in the country has increased to 453. The total number of confirmed cases in the country is 25,543, with 1,443 currently isolated and receiving treatment.
