[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 22nd that the cumulative number of subscribers to its connected car services in South Korea has surpassed 2 million. This milestone comes six months after reaching 1.5 million subscribers in April of this year, following the achievement of 1 million subscribers in June last year.
Connected car services integrate information and communication technology (IT) into vehicles, enabling control and management through in-car infotainment systems and smartphone applications. Currently, Hyundai Motor's Bluelink, Kia's UVO, and Genesis Connected Services (GCS) are in operation.
Hyundai Motor Group first entered the connected car service market in 2003 when Hyundai and Kia launched Korea's first telematics service, Mozen. Later, in 2012, Hyundai introduced Bluelink and Kia launched UVO as separate services, and in 2017, Genesis unveiled Genesis Connected Services.
As more customers seek a simpler and more convenient "smart car life," Hyundai Motor Group has actively developed and provided competitive services such as wireless navigation updates, voice recognition vehicle control convenience features, real-time traffic information-based route guidance, and lifestyle-oriented services including CarPay.
Hyundai Motor Group plans to further enhance user convenience by adding features such as road condition notifications and continuously develop innovative service models that reflect diverse customer needs.
Meanwhile, at CES 2019, Hyundai Motor Group announced its goal to secure 10 million global connected car service subscribers by 2022 and to equip all vehicle models launched in the global market with connected car services.
Choo Kyo-woong, Executive Vice President in charge of Electronics at Hyundai Motor Group, stated, "As more customers seek smarter experiences through their vehicles, the connected car service market is expected to grow rapidly. We will continue to develop customer-oriented services in line with the era of connected car popularization to provide innovative experiences and value to our customers."
