[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Renault Samsung Motors announced on the 22nd that it will launch additional accessories exclusively for the QM6 and XM3 models to meet the ‘car camping’ (overnight stay in a car) craze in the era of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The previously released car camping products include a total of five items?simple chair, simple table, wide blanket, camping hanger, and wood-print tumbler?in addition to the existing air mattress and car tent, allowing for a more compact car camping experience.
In fact, sales of accessories needed for car camping have increased about 30 times compared to last year before COVID-19. The QM6-exclusive air mattress and car tent, which have been sold even before the car camping craze, increased by 4.4 times and 33 times respectively compared to last year. Along with the air mattress, sales of the QM6-exclusive Renault car tent also increased compared to last year. The Renault car tent is designed to maximize the limited trunk space to realize an optimal space configuration.
The XM3-exclusive air mattress, launched in June, is also steadily gaining popularity. Since its launch in June, sales of the XM3-exclusive air mattress have increased by more than 10% each month on average. The XM3-exclusive car tent, additionally introduced in August, is also steadily increasing in sales.
Kim Tae-jun, Head of Sales at Renault Samsung Motors, said, “Renault Samsung’s representative sports utility vehicles (SUVs), the QM6 and XM3, are popular among customers who enjoy car camping due to their spacious and luxurious interiors,” adding, “To repay the support of these customers, we plan to continuously introduce essential car camping and camping accessories to our customers.”
