[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The National Police Agency announced on the 22nd that it will hold the 'CSI KOREA 2020, International CSI Conference' online from the 22nd to the 24th, with 1,800 participants including domestic and international forensic experts and researchers.
Now in its 6th year, this conference will explore ways to apply core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution, such as artificial intelligence and big data analysis, to forensic science under the theme "Changing Roles of Forensic Science and Future Challenges." In particular, there will be sessions sharing cases of solving cold cases domestically and internationally using these technologies.
The keynote lecture will be delivered by Henry Lee, a world-renowned scholar in forensic science and Honorary Chair Professor at the University of New Haven, USA, on the topic "Future Changes through the Convergence of New Technologies in Forensic Science." Professor Lee has investigated over 8,000 cases in more than 50 years and participated in the famous "O.J. Simpson case" and the reinvestigation of the assassination of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy.
Additionally, the conference will be attended by 816 forensic professionals from 52 countries overseas, along with leading international organizations in forensic science such as the International Association for Identification (IAI), the International Association of Forensic Sciences (IAFS), and the Asian Forensic Sciences Network (AFSN). It is expected to be a venue to confirm Korea's forensic capabilities and to engage in progressive discussions at the international level.
Kim Chang-ryong, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, said in his opening remarks, "The recent sophistication of crimes and changes in the judicial environment present new challenges to forensic science," adding, "Forensic science will integrate with advanced technologies to enhance comprehensive crime analysis capabilities beyond evidence analysis, thereby strengthening the police's responsibility investigation system."
