[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) will hold the ‘Living Culture Club Art Week’ event on the 24th and 25th at The Terrace on the 4th floor of Yongsan I'Park Mall (55 Hangang-daero 23-gil).
This is to promote living culture in which citizens directly participate.
There are 11 participating clubs. On the 24th, five teams including Pine Tree Ocarina Ensemble, Meotjin Saramdeul, Alpha Yakjangsu, Choi Sang, and Sonkkot Sign Language Club will perform, and on the 25th, six teams including Hangang Choir Opera Choir, Band Itsmi, Senior Nanta, Isaaks Ichon Saxophone Club, Navillera Ocarina, and Jai Ensemble have registered to participate.
They will perform on the outdoor stage with performances such as ocarina septet, Hawaiian hula dance, musical, choir, ensemble, and Nanta. The event runs from 1 PM to 5 PM, with each team allocated 30 minutes.
Any interested residents can watch the event for free. Recorded videos will be streamed on the district office’s YouTube channel.
A district official said, “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were many restrictions on living culture club activities this year. Through this event, we hope to relieve the thirst of living culture artists for the stage and contribute to forming networks among clubs.”
As of October, there are 61 living culture clubs in Yongsan-gu. About 600 residents are active members across various fields such as crafts, pottery, art, and calligraphy.
The district has supported living culture club activities since 2018 in cooperation with Seoul City and the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture. Representative activities include club orientations, meetings, participation in the Art Road 7017 Festival, and the Yongsan Music Club Federation Festival.
At the end of this year, an exhibition of works will continue at the exhibition hall on the basement first floor of Yongsan Art Hall, focusing on craft and art clubs.
Yongsan-gu Mayor Seong Jang-hyun said, “With the easing of social distancing, we decided to hold the Art Week event while complying with quarantine rules. We will focus on supporting club activities as well as discovering and supporting solo artists to revitalize living culture.”
