The (Corporation) National Book Reading Cities Association is an organization founded in 2018 to promote reading culture and create a book-reading community society by enhancing exchange and cooperation among book-reading cities nationwide.
At the temporary general meeting, Yuseonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, was elected president; Kim Jeongseop, Mayor of Gongju City, and Jeong Myeonghui, Mayor of Buk-gu, Busan, were elected joint vice presidents; and Yu Gijang, County Governor of Gochang, was elected auditor.
Since its establishment in 2018, the district has participated in various reading programs such as the ‘Kkumkkum’ project, ‘Hello Coding’, and ‘I am also a writer’, and has worked to expand the base of reading culture by creating infrastructure that allows reading anywhere through the establishment of ‘One Library per Neighborhood’.
Going forward, the district plans to promote ‘information exchange and education projects among book-reading cities participating in the association nationwide’, ‘joint cooperation projects with reading promotion-related institutions and organizations’, and ‘policy projects for expanding reading promotion and the book ecosystem’ together with participating local governments of the association.
Yuseonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We must overcome the COVID-19 situation by revitalizing reading culture,” and added, “During my term, I will do my best to normalize reading in daily life and build a book-reading city ecosystem through active communication and exchange with other local governments.”
