'COVID-19 Crisis Response Chief' Czech Deputy Prime Minister Tests Positive

Czech Republic Reports 12,000 New COVID-19 Cases Yesterday... Rapid Spread Continues

[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] The Czech Deputy Prime Minister, who oversees the response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), has tested positive for COVID-19, local media reported on the 21st (local time).


According to reports, the Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD) announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Jan Hamacek tested positive for COVID-19. Hamacek is said to have tested positive after a meeting with Minister of Agriculture Miroslav Toman, who had previously tested positive. CSSD executives also attended the meeting.


Hamacek is currently showing only mild symptoms. He stated on his Twitter, "Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID-19. I was probably infected during the meeting with the Minister of Agriculture," adding, "I am isolating at home but will continue working online."


Meanwhile, until August, the number of new cases in the Czech Republic seemed to stabilize at around 200, but since September, there has been a rapid spread. The number of new cases alone reached 11,984 yesterday.
