[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] A woman in her 90s who received a flu vaccine in Jeonnam has died.
This is the first case of death after flu vaccination in Jeonnam. She is one of the nine people who died after receiving the flu vaccine, as announced by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on the afternoon of the 21st.
According to the Jeonnam provincial health authorities, a woman in her 90s, identified as Ms. A, who received the flu vaccine at a hospital in Mokpo around 9 a.m. the previous day, died at around 12:30 a.m. the same night after returning home.
Ms. A was known to have underlying conditions such as heart disease.
The health authorities have dispatched epidemiological investigators to investigate the circumstances of Ms. A’s death.
An investigation of 204 people who received the same vaccine at the same hospital on the same day confirmed no adverse reactions.
The health authorities are investigating the causal relationship between the death case and the vaccination, and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s vaccination damage investigation team will make the final determination on causality.
A health official stated, "She is one of the nine people announced by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency," adding, "Although it is true that she died after receiving the flu vaccine, since the deceased had underlying conditions, the causal relationship between the vaccine and the death is not clear."
