[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin] Jo Joo-bin (25, detained and indicted), the operator of the Telegram 'Baksa Room,' has been additionally indicted on charges including concealing criminal proceeds.
On the 21st, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office 'Digital Sex Crime Special Investigation Task Force' additionally indicted Jo and Kang, among others, on charges including violation of the Act on the Regulation and Punishment of Concealment of Criminal Proceeds.
According to the prosecution, Jo is accused of concealing approximately 108 million KRW in profits 53 times from August last year to March this year by receiving criminal proceeds from the Baksa Room in cryptocurrency and exchanging them.
Kang was charged with exchanging about 3.5 million KRW eight times and delivering it to Jo.
Additional sex crimes confirmed against Jo include filming using cameras under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, quasi-rape, and forcible molestation.
Jo is also accused of instructing his accomplice Jeong, known as the so-called ‘Off-nam,’ to forcibly molest female victims at a motel and film the scene, then distributing the recorded videos.
He is also charged with defaming victims during the distribution of sexual exploitation materials in the Baksa Room.
A prosecution official stated, “We plan to file a motion to consolidate this case with the ongoing trial involving Jo Joo-bin and five other members of the criminal group,” adding, “We will do our best to maintain the prosecution so that a sentence commensurate with the severity of the crimes can be imposed.”
