Hurim Robot Selected as an Excellent Partner Institution by Hanyang University ERICA

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Hurim Robot announced on the 21st that it was selected as an excellent industry-academia cooperation institution by Hanyang University ERICA.

Hurim Robot signed an industry-academia cooperation agreement with Hanyang University ERICA in May to establish an intelligent robot education system. Through the agreement, Hurim Robot and Hanyang University ERICA newly launched the ‘Industry-Coupled Problem-Based Learning’ (IC-PBL) course, conducting practical classes based on robot theory education and creative problem-solving methodologies.

Students from the Department of Electronic Engineering and the Department of Business Administration formed five teams, each provided with one intelligent service robot ‘temi’. The students not only received robot theory education but also developed application scenarios and carried out processes to derive business models that could utilize the robots in real field settings.

This IC-PBL course was conducted using a top-down approach with temi, enabling the development of various scenarios with practical application in mind, unlike the existing bottom-up practical method that only uses predetermined scenarios.

Professor Byungjoo Lee of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Hanyang University ERICA, who was in charge of the IC-PBL education, said, “The students who participated in the class through the project greatly improved their understanding of the industrial field and cultivated practical skills. It was an exemplary case of productive industry-academia cooperation that satisfied the school, students, and company through Hurim Robot’s active cooperation and support.” He added, “We plan to regularize this ICT convergence robotics IC-PBL program and continuously operate the course in the future.”

A Hurim Robot official stated, “Based on the know-how gained through collaboration with Hanyang University ERICA, we plan to expand intelligent robot education systems to several universities and additionally operate internship programs.” He added, “We will lead the robot industry suitable for the untact era by applying the outcomes derived from such industry-academia cooperation to various customer services.”
