Mercedes-Benz Launches Plug-in Hybrid SUV 'GLC 300 e' Starting at 75.8 Million KRW

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Mercedes-Benz Korea officially launched the 3rd generation plug-in hybrid sport utility vehicles (SUV) GLC 300 e 4MATIC and GLC 300 e 4MATIC Coupe in Korea on the 21st.


The New GLC 300 e 4MATIC and the New GLC 300 e 4MATIC Coupe are plug-in hybrid versions of the model that established itself as the best-selling imported mid-size SUV in Korea, recording over 4,500 sales since the partial facelift model was officially launched domestically in January.


Recently, Mercedes-Benz Korea has been strengthening its eco-friendly EQ brand lineup. The EQ brand consists of various lineups including EQ Boost models equipped with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, EQ Power plug-in hybrid models, and pure electric vehicles such as the EQC.

Pure Electric Driving Range of 25km... Highly Efficient PHEV System

The GLC 300 e 4MATIC and GLC 300 e 4MATIC Coupe apply Mercedes-Benz’s 3rd generation plug-in hybrid technology, boasting an increased electric driving range and excellent battery efficiency compared to the previous generation.


The hybrid drive system combines a 4-cylinder inline gasoline engine with a maximum output of 211 horsepower and maximum torque of 35.7 kg·m, and a new electric motor with a maximum output of 122 horsepower and maximum torque of 44.9 kg·m, delivering a combined output of approximately 320 horsepower.


Additionally, the lithium-ion battery capacity, which was installed in the previous generation plug-in hybrid system, has been significantly increased to 13.5 kWh, extending the pure electric mode driving range to 25 km (domestic standard, 50 km under European standard), providing a rich electric driving experience.


Both models offer the most suitable driving system for the current driving situation through the EQ Power exclusive operating modes of hybrid, electric motor, and engine operation. The four driving modes?Hybrid, E-Mode, E-Save, and Charge?can be automatically selected according to the driver’s preference and driving conditions, and the desired driving mode can also be manually selected using the drive and charge mode switches and buttons on the center console.

Comfortable Driving with Advanced Driving and Convenience Features

The GLC 300 e 4MATIC and GLC 300 e 4MATIC Coupe provide a more comfortable and safe driving environment by offering various safety and convenience features as standard.


First, the latest version of the Driving Assistance Package, which includes the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC function that maintains distance from the vehicle ahead and supports automatic speed control, braking, and starting, is installed as standard. It also includes Active Brake Assist with intersection function, Active Lane Keeping Assist package, Exit Warning Assist, and Pre-Safe Plus.


Drivers can check the vehicle’s charging status and energy flow through Mercedes-Benz’s latest infotainment system MBUX, and easily control the system using intelligent voice recognition, touchscreen, touchpad, or the control panel on the steering wheel.

Upgraded High-Efficiency Battery System and Reliable Warranty Service

The GLC 300 e 4MATIC and GLC 300 e 4MATIC Coupe are equipped with a 13.5 kWh lithium-ion battery produced by Deutsche Accumotive, a subsidiary of the Daimler Group. The charging performance of the 7.4 kW onboard charger, which has more than doubled from the previous 3.6 kW capacity, has improved about twofold, taking approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to fully charge using a Mercedes-Benz dedicated charger. Mercedes-Benz Korea provides an 8-year or 160,000 km (whichever comes first) warranty service for the installed lithium-ion battery.


Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz Korea offers a plug-in hybrid exclusive 'Warranty Plus' benefit with extended service warranty compared to other models for some EQ Power plug-in hybrid vehicles.


While the existing benefit supports a service warranty extension of up to 5 years or 140,000 km (whichever comes first), the exclusive benefit for plug-in hybrid customers provides an additional 10,000 km of free vehicle warranty, up to 5 years or 150,000 km (whichever comes first).


The prices of the GLC 300 e 4MATIC and GLC 300 e 4MATIC Coupe are 75.8 million KRW and 79.9 million KRW respectively, including VAT.
