President Moon introduced the case of embracing Chinese evacuees from Wuhan at the early stage of the spread of the 'novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)' and emphasized, "Asan, the police city that led the success of K-quarantine, is an unforgettable city to the people." He said, "Even during the large-scale rallies on holidays when there were great concerns about the re-spread of COVID-19, the police responded strictly to the collective illegal acts," and "I highly commend the police's efforts in preventing the re-spread of COVID-19."
In his commemorative speech that day, President Moon did not spare praise for the police through expressions such as 'Police capabilities recognized worldwide,' 'K-quarantine contributing to globalization,' and 'Model of administrative innovation.' In a situation where the issue of prosecution reform, including the conflict between Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, has come back into focus, President Moon's move to support the police is a noteworthy point.
President Moon evaluated, "Our police have worked tirelessly this year to reform themselves." He said, "Intensive self-innovation is increasing public trust in the police," and "The adjustment of investigative authority has also laid the groundwork to enhance the independence and accountability of police investigations."
President Moon urged, "As the police's long-cherished wish is being fulfilled through reform legislation, I hope you will establish a responsible investigation system based on fairness and expertise as a 'confident and responsible police.'"
President Moon pledged, "The government will never forget the police's hard work and will do its best to ensure they receive appropriate treatment," and "The government will accompany you so that you can walk unwaveringly on the path of 'democratic, human rights, and livelihood police.'"
President Moon said, "If each and every one walks the honorable path of the police of the Republic of Korea with pride, the people will respond with greater 'respect and love.' I will accompany you on that path as well."
