[Asia Economy (Chungbuk) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Four cities and counties in Chungbuk have been selected for the regional food plan establishment project competition.
On the 21st, Chungbuk Province announced that Cheongju City, Jecheon City, Yeongdong County, and Jeungpyeong County were simultaneously selected in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ “2021 Regional Food Plan Establishment Support Project” competition.
The support project has been implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs as a national policy task in the agricultural sector since 2018. It supports research service costs required to establish a comprehensive plan for local food.
In Chungbuk, last year, Goesan County and this year, Chungbuk Provincial Office were first selected for this project and have been conducting research services.
In addition, four cities and counties in the province, including Cheongju, have newly been added to the list of project implementation areas.
The Ministry of Agriculture selected a total of 15 locations nationwide as project implementation areas for next year. By region, Chungbuk had the most, followed by Gyeongnam (3 locations), Gangwon and Jeonnam (2 locations each), and Gyeongbuk, Gyeonggi, Jeonbuk, and Chungnam (1 location each).
The food plan is a comprehensive local food circulation strategy that integrates and manages related issues such as production, consumption, safety, nutrition, welfare, and environment. It refers to a virtuous cycle food policy where agricultural products produced locally are consumed and disposed of within the region.
Sung Chun-seok, Director of the Agricultural Food Distribution Division of the province, said, “All cities and counties are scheduled to establish comprehensive food plans by 2023,” adding, “Based on this, the province will strive to establish a safe food supply system within the region and promote a non-discriminatory food policy that considers vulnerable groups and marginalized areas.”
