The Season of Returning Hobbang... Seven Eleven Launches Unique Dessert-Concept Hobbang


[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] As the weather has recently turned chilly, the number of consumers seeking the representative winter snack at convenience stores, hobang, has significantly increased.


According to 7-Eleven on the 21st, hobang sales during the past week (14th-20th), when the lowest temperature dropped below 10 degrees Celsius, rose by 72% compared to the same period the previous week.


This is analyzed to be due to hobang, once considered a nostalgic snack for middle-aged and older generations, being reborn with a new concept that suits the tastes of younger consumers, gaining popularity.


In response, 7-Eleven launched the ‘Minions Banana Hobang’ in collaboration with the popular character Minions. This product features a yellow hobang filled generously with banana custard cream, characterized by its soft and sweet taste.


They also introduced the ‘Cream Cheese Hobang’ using cream cheese from the global food company Kraft Heinz. It contains Kraft cream cheese, offering a distinctive deep cheese flavor and smooth taste, making it perfect to enjoy simply as a dessert with coffee or milk. The selling price is 1,400 won.


As the peak season for hobang fully begins and the dessert and home cafe trends continue, 7-Eleven expects dessert-type hobang to have particularly high demand among female customers.


7-Eleven is holding a promotion until the end of next month where customers who purchase hobang can buy a 7Cafe brewed coffee (HOT) for 300 won from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.


Park Jinhee, the hobang MD at 7-Eleven, said, “As the winter season officially begins, more consumers are seeking hobang, the representative winter snack at convenience stores. With the popularity of hobang featuring unique toppings mainly among younger consumers, we decided to launch these products.”
