LG Display Partners with Disney to Supply OLED for Marvel

LG Display Partners with Disney to Supply OLED for Marvel

[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] LG Display is teaming up with the world's largest entertainment company, Walt Disney, to target the global market.

On the 21st, LG Display announced that it has signed a strategic partnership for OLED (organic light-emitting diode) technology collaboration with StudioLAB, a subsidiary of Walt Disney.

StudioLAB is a place that researches advanced film shooting techniques and editing technologies.

Through this partnership, the two companies plan to offer a new viewing experience to global Disney fans by starting with cooperation on OLED TVs for content production for Disney video professionals over three years, and through various projects combining OLED technology and Disney content.

First, LG Display will supply OLED TVs for content production to The Walt Disney Studios, which includes film production companies such as Marvel, Pixar, Fox, and Lucasfilm.

As the first case, LG Display installed 88-inch 'LG SIGNATURE OLED 8K' TVs at Marvel Studios, one of the most successful film production companies in the world and well known for the 'Avengers' series, and began using OLED TVs for film production and post-editing.

In particular, post-editing is a process that involves correcting the original video to the color intended by the creator and adding computer graphics, making the performance of the display expressing the video very important.

OLED, a self-emissive display where pixels emit light themselves, is evaluated as the optimal display that can reproduce the original colors intended by the creator without distortion due to its superior color accuracy, contrast ratio, and viewing angle compared to LCD. Marvel Studios plans to realize even higher quality visuals through OLED TVs.

Changho Oh, head of LG Display's TV Business Division, said, "We have established a close cooperative relationship with Disney, which creates content loved worldwide," adding, "This will be an opportunity to perfectly reproduce the emotions of Disney content produced with OLED TVs at home using OLED TVs."

Matthew Deuel, Director of Innovation Partnerships at Disney StudioLAB, said, "Innovation and creative content development will accelerate further through OLED," and added, "We look forward to various projects to be unveiled with LG Display in the future."
