Professor Hong Jun-pyo Selected as Korea's First Speaker on Maligniac in the US

Professor Hong Jun-pyo Selected as Korea's First Speaker on Maligniac in the US Professor Hong Jun-pyo of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Seoul Asan Medical Center was selected as a Maliniak lecturer by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and received a plaque.


[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Professor Hong Jun-pyo of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Seoul Asan Medical Center was recently selected as the 'Maliniac' lecturer by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of global plastic surgery, the hospital announced on the 20th. This is the first time for a Korean.


The Maliniac lecture is named after Dr. Jacques W. Maliniac, who founded the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 1931. At the American Plastic Surgery Conference, once a year, a medical professional who has made significant achievements in the development of plastic surgery worldwide is selected and awarded. Professor Hong is the 43rd recipient worldwide and has been recognized for innovative surgeries in plastic surgery such as diabetic foot reconstruction, supermicrosurgical reconstruction, and lymphedema reconstruction. The lecture was held online on the 18th under the title "Relentless Challenge."


Past recipients of this award include Paul Tessier in the field of congenital craniofacial deformities, Melis in peripheral nerve surgery, Pu Chen Wei in cranioplasty flap and hand reconstruction, and Lantieri, who performed the world's first face transplant. Professor Hong previously received the Godina Award from the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery in 2016 and the Alfred Palmer Award from the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2017.
