The Last Luxury Townhouse in Bundang Gumi-dong, Halted for Over 10 Years, Finally Completed in October

A Special Detached House Complex Sought by Celebrities - Hanssem Bachhaus

The Last Luxury Townhouse in Bundang Gumi-dong, Halted for Over 10 Years, Finally Completed in October

For popular public figures and celebrities, the era of post-COVID residential culture has truly arrived. It marks the beginning of a time when, despite hectic schedules, there is a need for spaces within the home to connect with the outside world.

As celebrities spend more time at home, their need for diverse spaces has increased. With social distancing measures strengthened due to COVID-19, the home’s role has expanded to become the center of life, encompassing rest and leisure.

The meaning of home is evolving into a central space where one can enjoy nature and work simultaneously in daily life. Houses equipped with special spaces that only the owner can enjoy are gaining popularity. Recently, the luxury detached housing complex Bundang Hansem Bach House, highly praised on SBS FIL’s “Brightening Your Daily Life,” is exactly the place celebrities seek.

Additionally, it has become a hot topic that Kim Eana, a popular South Korean lyricist who wrote numerous hit songs including IU’s “Good Day,” hosts the MC role on “To You Project - Sugarman,” and runs MBC Radio’s “Kim Eana’s Night Letter,” will be moving into Bundang Hansem Bach House, which is scheduled for completion in October.

This uniquely named residence, reminiscent of the Bauhaus art school in Weimar, Germany, was born from the collaboration between Japan’s rising global architect Keisuke Maeda and Korea’s top architect Lee Han-jong (currently adjunct professor at Sungkyunkwan University’s Department of Architecture), marking a milestone in Korean architectural history. The design and structure of this detached housing complex, which implements an untact (contactless) residential environment, is distinctly different from the concept of space design tailored to celebrities’ needs in the post-COVID era.

Bundang Hansem Bach House features a detached multi-floor structure with 11 private spaces, exclusive elevators for each household, and an 11-meter indoor courtyard centered around the living room that allows residents to enjoy nature. It also includes two yards and three terraces where the changes of nature can be appreciated indoors all year round.

Hansem Bach House is equipped with various conditions that enable natural social distancing even within the complex. Each household has a dedicated parking area with a separate entrance directly connected to the home, and private elevators inside the unit ensure convenience and security without encountering other residents. Moreover, the four yards, including the courtyard, allow residents to meet nature and take walks without any disturbance, and the rooftop garden even features a barbecue party area, serving as an alternative to crowded camping sites.

Inside Hansem Bach House, various spaces essential for celebrities that are not found in typical apartments are provided, offering a structure suitable for the COVID era where work, study, and rest are all handled at home. The multi-room space on the second floor can be used as a remote work area or a place for various hobbies.

The basement includes a studio space that can be used as a creative workspace or workshop exclusively for the resident. The terrace closest to the room can be used as a vegetable garden, allowing residents to cultivate various plants indoors, and there is also space for pets to run and play.

Florian Idenburg, co-founder of so-il, who has designed popup projects such as tents for the Frieze Art Fair, explains that when we see a new space, we often imagine ourselves confined there for months. Therefore, the kitchen, dining room, and living room are not merged as before but separated into distinct spaces, and bedrooms are placed apart to also serve as workspaces. Additionally, the bedrooms were enlarged to accommodate desks. About 30% of the entire building is designed to be outdoor space, offering various options.

“It is important to have spaces where you can go outside,” says Idenburg. (Excerpt from Vogue, September 2020) As times change and spaces naturally evolve, Bundang Hansem Bach House, which satisfies the need for diverse spaces, is expected to emerge as a representative residential culture complex for celebrities in the post-COVID era.

With completion scheduled for October, Hansem Bach House is receiving a flood of purchase inquiries and visit reservations from those seeking a unique new residential environment. As Hansem’s first detached housing complex, Hansem Bach House operates by visit reservation only.
