[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 21st that it will actively promote employment and entrepreneurship programs to strengthen the economic capabilities of local women in Indonesia.

This project is being carried out in cooperation with the Indonesian Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection and will be implemented over five years from this year through 2024 in the Surabaya region of Indonesia. The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family plans to support approximately 500 million KRW annually.

Initiated at Indonesia's request, this project stems from the Ministry's operation of the "Women's New Employment Center" and its experience with official development assistance projects. Previously, the Ministry supported women's vocational skill development projects in Vietnam and Laos.

Through the Indonesian women's empowerment support project, the Ministry aims to focus on ▲strengthening individual women's capabilities ▲reinforcing the foundation for employment and entrepreneurship linkage ▲spreading policy models. To this end, it plans to develop a gender-integrated vocational training model and support teaching materials and environmental improvements necessary for vocational technical education at girls' schools in Surabaya. Additionally, courses such as e-commerce in response to COVID-19 and sewing will be organized.

Minister Lee Jung-ok of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family stated, "Based on the experience of vocational capability development projects promoted at 158 Saeil Centers in Korea, we will actively support Indonesian women to enhance their capabilities through vocational training."
