[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 20th, the People’s Party criticized Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, saying, “Minister Choo, who firmly upholds political neutrality and holds the prosecutorial authority for criminal law enforcement, is trampling and destroying the prosecution organization so recklessly. Does she think the public are amoebas without eyes, ears, or brains?”

In a statement on the same day, Ahn Hye-jin, spokesperson for the People’s Party, said, “Minister Choo reassigned an investigator who worked in the same investigation team as the chief prosecutor responsible for investigating and maintaining the prosecution in the Lime Fund fraud case involving former Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Kang Ki-jung to a completely unrelated department,” adding, “Shortly after assuming office, she disbanded the Securities Crime Joint Investigation Unit of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office, and now it seems her true intention in replacing the Lime investigation team members who were investigating lobbying suspicions involving political and business circles is ultimately to ‘save Kang Ki-jung.’”

Spokesperson Ahn pointed out, “Minister Choo, who should be leading the prosecution in thoroughly investigating the regime’s corruption and eradicating wrongdoing, has instead degraded the prosecution into the regime’s watchdog. She has long since gone off track and is recklessly running like a runaway train, surpassing even North Korea.”

Ahn added, “Minister Choo’s behavior of treating everyone who is not on her side within the organization as an enemy and targeting them for selective investigations goes against prosecutorial reform and appears to be a heinous act to cover up the current regime’s power corruption,” and stated, “It seems she is openly signaling that one must align with the current regime to succeed.”

Spokesperson Ahn concluded, “The only solution now is a special prosecutor. Remember that the ruling party and the current president were the very ones who approved the appointment of Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl during the confirmation hearing despite allegations related to his wife and stocks. If suspicions remain, the best course of action would be to entrust the special prosecutor related to Prosecutor General Yoon’s family to Seoul Central District Prosecutor Lee Sung-yoon, and the special prosecutor for the Lime and Optimus fraud cases to Prosecutor General Han Dong-hoon.”
