Dongmyeong University 'Relay Science Exploration' Youth Invitation Event Popular ... Nurturing Dreams by Looking at Past and Future

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A science exploration event that showcases university-applied AI agricultural technologies to local youth is gaining popularity.
The ‘Smart Field (Smart Farm)’ of urban agriculture, where mushrooms are cultivated using artificial intelligence technology inside a container, was presented right before the eyes of students visiting the city campus.
Dongmyung University (President Jeong Hong-seop) held the first experience event of the ‘Science Exploration Classroom,’ which invites about 600 youths in relay throughout the year to spread scientific culture in the region, on October 17 at the on-campus smart farm.
On the afternoon of the 17th, 21 elementary students from Sahagu Youth Culture House visited this farm.
The young students observed mushrooms growing under temperature, humidity, and light control for four hours at the AI Convergence Smart Farm Academy. They experienced a new urban agriculture facility that remotely controls the growth environment, including carbon dioxide emission, fresh air inflow, humidification, and dehumidification.
The ‘Dongmyung Amigo’ AI mushroom, which Dongmyung University successfully cultivated on its own and recently launched on the market, was harvested directly by the ‘one-day farmers’ and taken home.
The students also had time to view a vintage Mercedes-Benz 600 car displayed at the Dongmyung Memorial Hall. This car has a small story behind it.
The exhibit, which was the personal vehicle of the university’s founder Chairman Kang Seok-jin, was produced in the early 1960s and was used as the presidential protocol vehicle when former President Park Chung-hee visited Busan.
When Professor Park Soo-young of Dongmyung University explained, “Dongmyung Lumber Company imported this to commemorate receiving a presidential award for achieving Korea’s first $100 million export along with Youngpoong Trading Company, Samsung C&T, and others,” the students’ attention was drawn once again.
The AI Convergence Innovation Live Field Invitation Exploration Program, which Dongmyung University is conducting until the end of this year, is the only science popularization support project selected by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity in the Busan area this year.
Until December, mainly on Saturdays, four AI convergence innovation science culture programs ? Smart Farm (urban agriculture), drones, makerspace, and practical astronomy ? will be presented by inviting about 600 local youths.
On the 24th, 25 middle school students from Busanjin-gu Youth Culture Center will visit the AI Convergence Smart Farm Academy.
Forty middle school students from Haeundae Youth Training Center are scheduled to experience the drone academy.
The 31st is also booked. Thirty elementary students from Bansong 2-dong Youth Culture House will visit the Makerspace Academy. Thirty-six middle school students from Sasang-gu Youth Training Center will attend the drone experience academy, and 30 elementary students from Hamjigol Youth Training Center will visit the AI Convergence Smart Farm Academy.
President Jeong Hong-seop of Dongmyung University said, “Through the AI Convergence Innovation Science Culture Field Exploration, many science dreamers will nurture dreams to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
