COVID-19 Prevention Technologies Including Reusable Masks Gathered in One Place

[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) will participate in the international hospital medical device industry fair (K-Hospital Fair 2020) held for three days from the 21st to the 23rd at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul. The international hospital medical device industry fair is an event prepared for medical industry workers to understand the current status of technological development and communicate with the industry.

With a total of 120 institutions participating and 320 booths operated at this exhibition, KAIST will showcase the Korean-style quarantine package technology being researched by the COVID-19 Response Science and Technology New Deal Project Group. The project group is promoting a three-stage project consisting of infection prevention and protection, emergency response, and treatment recovery.

First, Professor Ildu Kim from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, who previously revealed the washable mask technology, will demonstrate the process of producing nanofibers using an electrospinning machine. Professor Wonho Choi from the Department of Nuclear and Quantum Engineering will introduce two types of medical low-temperature plasma sterilizers jointly researched with the startup company Plasmap. Professor Hyungsun Park from the Department of Mechanical Engineering will exhibit smart protective clothing ventilation system technology. Professor Jongcheol Yeo from the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering will demonstrate artificial intelligence software that can rapidly diagnose infectious diseases based on chest X-ray images. Professor Kihoon Jeong from the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering will unveil an ultra-fast, ultra-compact molecular diagnostic system for on-site diagnosis.

Project Group Leader Choongsik Bae stated, "Through KAIST, researchers, companies, and hospitals will build an organic relationship to contribute to ending COVID-19 and establish a new paradigm for the Korean-style quarantine package."
