[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province created a public parking lot with 50 spaces in the area of 366-30 and 366-55 Gungnae-dong, Bundang-gu, and opened it free of charge to local residents on the 20th.
The site where the parking lot was created is a 3,220㎡ (length 140m) water supply site with a metropolitan water pipe installed 5 meters underground. It is managed by the Korea Water Resources Corporation.
Seongnam City held consultations with the Korea Water Resources Corporation on July 14 to create a public parking lot to resolve the chronic parking shortage in the densely populated residential area of Gungnam Village.
A special adjustment grant of 285 million KRW from Gyeonggi Province was invested in the creation of the parking lot.
Any local resident can park their car without a separate usage fee.
A city official explained, "The parking lot utilizing the water supply site will significantly alleviate the inconvenience of local residents who had been parking their vehicles in a queue on both sides of the narrow alleys."
