[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] On the morning of the 19th, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun spoke with Colombian President Iv?n Duque M?rquez and requested support for Yoo Myung-hee, the Director-General for Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, who is running for the next World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General election, the Office for Government Policy Coordination announced.


Prime Minister Chung said, "Director-General Yoo, a trade expert, is the right candidate with the capability and vision to reform the WTO and restore the multilateral trading system," and requested Colombia's support.


President Duque responded, "I am pleased to support candidate Yoo," adding, "The election of a Korean candidate as WTO Director-General is an important matter not only for Korea but for the entire world."


Last week, Prime Minister Chung sent letters requesting support for Director-General Yoo to 27 countries.


Additionally, the Office for Government Policy Coordination reported that both sides discussed "expanding trade and investment between the two countries," "Korea's accession as an associate member of the Pacific Alliance (PA)," and "high-level exchanges."
