"Consumption and Domestic Demand Are Coming Back to Life"

President Moon Jae-in said on the 19th, "As the COVID-19 quarantine situation stabilizes, consumption and domestic demand are reviving," adding, "Now is the golden time for economic rebound."
Presiding over the senior secretaries' meeting at the Blue House that day, President Moon stated in his opening remarks, "The government will repeatedly keep in mind that 'the best quarantine is the shortcut to reviving the economy.'
President Moon mentioned that the recent COVID-19 situation has entered a calming phase and said that the government will implement full-scale economic recovery policies going forward.
He said, "It is time to double the whole-of-government efforts to boost economic vitality," and urged, "The government must promote various measures to enhance domestic demand vitality."
He continued, "I hope that policies that have been held back due to the quarantine situation will be prepared and launched immediately," adding, "It is necessary to resume the distribution of consumption coupons while monitoring the quarantine situation and to promote various projects to stimulate consumption."
In particular, President Moon requested, "Please pay special attention so that the arts and culture, travel, and tourism sectors, which have been hit hardest by COVID-19, can regain vitality."
Furthermore, President Moon expressed concern about employment trends and emphasized overcoming the employment shock.
He said, "I hope the emergency employment stability support prepared through the 4th supplementary budget will be completed swiftly, and that great care will be taken to support households in crisis."
He also stressed, "Please ensure that the supply of 300,000 public sector jobs is completed within this year, and that the 1.03 million public job projects for next year are executed without any gaps from the beginning of the year by making thorough preparations in advance," adding, "The Korean New Deal should also be fully promoted to facilitate job creation."

President Moon also urged thorough efforts to accelerate fiscal execution, investment activation, and export recovery support to speed up the economic rebound.
He said, "Efforts must be made to ensure that investment plans by companies, private capital, and the public sector are executed without delay within this year," emphasizing, "Especially, please do your best to prevent our exports, which have entered a recovery phase, from facing difficulties again due to the resurgence of COVID-19 worldwide, including in Europe."
He added, "Please strengthen support for our strength in non-face-to-face exports and build a more robust government support system to resolve export difficulties faced by companies."
Moreover, President Moon emphasized to the public that "we must prepare to coexist with COVID-19," saying, "It is a daily life where we must protect both quarantine and the economy."
He said, "If we continue to follow quarantine rules diligently without getting tired as we have done so far, we can succeed in both quarantine and the economy," and asked, "I request the people to become the main agents of quarantine success and economic rebound."
