[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The government plans to establish a 'Roadmap to Eliminate Blind Spots in Employment Insurance' by the end of this year.

On the 19th, Kim Yongbeom, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, stated at a meeting with related ministries held at the Government Complex Sejong regarding the elimination of blind spots in employment insurance that the difficulties faced by vulnerable groups in the labor market have significantly increased due to the recent spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), emphasizing the importance of a social safety net to protect vulnerable groups from employment shocks in times of crisis.

The government will first strengthen efforts to properly identify the income information of employment insurance beneficiaries to prevent omissions in employment insurance enrollment.

Currently, the Ministry of Economy and Finance has established a 'Tax-Employment Insurance Income Information Linkage Promotion Task Force (TF)' involving related ministries such as the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the National Tax Service, and Statistics Korea. This TF plans to organize an income information identification system linked to the expansion of employment insurance coverage and devise ways to smoothly connect income information between tax and employment insurance.

At the meeting, progress and plans for major tasks aimed at eliminating blind spots in employment insurance were reviewed. Additionally, measures to identify income information for future expanded employment insurance beneficiaries, such as special-type workers, will be prepared within this year.
