[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, argued that it is necessary to enforce the installation of CCTV in operating rooms through legislation. He also announced plans to install women’s safety return paths and CCTV in Danwon-gu, Ansan, where Jo Doo-soon, who will be released in December, is expected to reside.
On the 19th, during the National Assembly’s Public Administration and Security Committee’s audit of Gyeonggi Province, Lee responded to a question from Kim Young-bae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, “In the initial demand survey for installing CCTV in operating rooms, 12 hospitals said they would install it, but the number has decreased to two due to internal issues,” and explained, “The main reason is that the doctors at those hospitals oppose the installation of CCTV in operating rooms.”
He added, “Therefore, it is necessary to consider enforcing this through legislation.”
Regarding Kim’s point that “Jo Doo-soon, who will be released in December, is going to Danwon-gu, Ansan, which is one of the three places in the province without women’s safety return paths and CCTV,” Lee replied, “I will pay special attention to this.”
Earlier, on the 26th of last month, Governor Lee instructed, “Prepare protection measures for Na-young so that Jo Doo-soon does not live in the same area after his release.”
A provincial official stated, “Creating a situation where Na-young can feel safe is the top priority,” and added, “We plan to support a better living environment than now.”
