KT Non-Face-to-Face Learning Mentor 'Raenseon Night School' Operation

KT Non-Face-to-Face Learning Mentor 'Raenseon Night School' Operation

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT has signed a 'Remote Education Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)' with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and will operate a non-face-to-face learning mentoring program called 'Raenseon Yahak' (Online Night School).

According to KT on the 19th, 'Raenseon Yahak' was established to simultaneously address the learning gaps among youth deepened by the spread of COVID-19 and the economic difficulties faced by university students. The program is conducted in a non-face-to-face group mentoring format with one mentor responsible for three mentees. Middle school students participating in the mentoring focus intensively on desired subjects centered on basic academic subjects such as Korean, English, and Math. University student mentors meet their middle school mentees for four hours a week using KT's non-face-to-face online education platform.

One hundred university student mentors were selected from nine universities located in Seoul, including Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, Sogang University, and Ewha Womans University. Three hundred mentees were selected mainly from students with high learning motivation but needing help with self-directed learning, recommended by teachers from 380 middle schools under the jurisdiction of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in cooperation with the office. All classes of Raenseon Yahak are conducted remotely due to COVID-19, but face-to-face mentoring sessions will be arranged once the COVID-19 situation improves. This mentoring program will be piloted from October 2020 to March 2021 for middle school students under the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. Based on the results, it will be expanded next year to include university students nationwide and all elementary, middle, and high school students.

Lee Seon-joo, Head of KT's Sustainable Management Division (Executive Director), said, "KT Raenseon Yahak is an investment in the future generation that alleviates the concerns of students facing learning gaps and their parents while providing meaningful activity opportunities for university students. KT will continue to listen carefully to each customer's voice and fulfill its responsibility as a national company by using warm technology that embraces the hearts of customers."
