‘Eunhaeng Collection Task Force’ Operation ... Work Aiming to Complete Collection Before Fruit Falls ... Collected Fruits Sorted, Dried, and Tested for Heavy Metals Before Distribution to Needy Neighbors
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) has begun early harvesting of ginkgo tree fruits.
On the 19th, Guro-gu announced, "To resolve citizen inconveniences such as foul odors and aesthetic deterioration caused by ginkgo fruits, we are conducting harvesting operations aiming to complete collection before the fruits fall."
To this end, since the 11th of last month, Guro-gu has been operating a 'Ginkgo Harvesting Task Force.' The task force uses equipment such as aerial work vehicles, small trucks, and engine harvesters to carry out harvesting operations targeting 837 ginkgo trees in the area. When complaints are received, they immediately dispatch to the site to conduct collection work.
Guro-gu plans to sort, dry, and conduct heavy metal content tests on the collected ginkgo fruits before delivering them to neighbors in need within the community through the Guro Hope Food Market.
Additionally, to fundamentally solve the foul odor problem, the district will invest about 50 million won to replace approximately 30 female ginkgo trees with male trees, focusing on bus stops and commercial dense areas.
Currently, female ginkgo trees account for 837 out of 3,613 ginkgo trees in the district, making up 23%. The district plans to gradually reduce all female ginkgo trees in the area.
A Guro-gu official stated, "Ginkgo trees are beneficial as they add the charm of autumn in the city with their beautiful foliage and play roles such as air purification and pest prevention. We will do our best to preserve these advantages while resolving complaints caused by foul odors."
